Our Story

We believe children and youth deserve healthy, supportive relationships as they learn, grow and reintegrate with their families. Through a culturally-informed and medically holistic approach, we work together with children and parents living with disabilities or other medical conditions while providing equal access to resources and services.

The group home programs we offer are flexible and customized to improve the lives of each unique individual. From a service delivery perspective, we use a combined client-centred, trauma-informed and strength-based approach.

All of our staff and team members are required to complete training and courses to ensure cultural awareness and respect when working with Indigenous families and individuals.

Our director and founder Ann Hatoum started Simple Solutions Care in 2022 and has years of experience working with those in Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) services.

Simple Solutions Care is also a qualified FSCD/PDD vendor
and affiliated with Edmonton Medical Group.

Who Do We Support And Work With?

Together, we work with local social service agencies in Edmonton, referrals from Delegated First Nations Agencies (DFNA), other healthcare providers or caseworkers, and private organizations working with children and youth from 0 – 18 years of age.

Our clients are those who may be experiencing or living with:

  • Complex medical needs or trauma responses.
  • Familial issues which need stabilization, intervention
and healing before residing in a home.
  • Challenges that require a more focused and intensive
environment compared to other community-based programs.

Our Director & Founder
Born and raised in Edmonton, Ann Hatoum is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and has been working in the mental health and addictions community since 2014. She started Simple Solutions Care to support those going through the family reunification process, and to provide a safe place for children and youth to stay together.

Her journey into this field started while studying psychology, working at a clinic and attending nursing seminars. From there, she shifted her focus and career to nursing while working with chronic disease management patients before moving into mental health and addictions.

After hearing from many social workers and seeing the need for group home services in the community, especially for children and youth, Ann decided to transform an existing property into a group home. For Ann and her team, giving back to the community—while doing the hard yet rewarding work they are deeply passionate about—is the intrinsic mission behind Simple Solutions Care.

Our Process

We blend our approach and practice using an integrative, collaborative and holistic process. Our belief is that all individuals, regardless of ability or circumstance, have an equal right to participate fully in their lives, to be honoured for their personal growth and ideas, and to be treated with dignity and respect.

Here’s a closer look at our approaches and practice models:

Client-Centered Approach

This philosophy uses empathy and respect while providing care. Through this approach, clients are encouraged to make their own choices within their abilities, and are viewed as “a whole person.” The five core concepts we focus on are: dignity, respect, information sharing, participation and collaboration.

Trauma-Informed Approach

We include this approach in our service delivery to ensure clients have a safe environment (both physically and emotionally) to acknowledge and heal from past trauma, increase autonomy and a personal sense of control, and cultivate confidence and empowerment in their futures.

Medical Practice Model

Similar to the client-centred approach, we focus on the medical foundations of integrated care with an understanding that physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social needs affect overall health and wellbeing. We believe symptoms are interconnected, which is why our programs use a combination of medical, therapeutic and health related frameworks.

Cultural Practice Model

At Simple Solutions Care, the holistic teachings based on the Circle of Courage model guides our healing responses and the issues impacting children, youth and families. This model supports a “reclaiming environment” which embodies the needs of both the person and society. It also provides a pathway for children and youth to lead valuable, meaningful and enriching lives. The four key elements of the circle are: belonging, mastery, independence and generosity.
